The main task in this project was to transform the 1st floor’s terrace of an existing house, to a roof garden for its all year use. The idea was based on the creation of three different spatial functions, one covered, one semi-covered and one open. The covered space accommodates a living room and a kitchen / bar, while the open spaces host the barbecue and a small outdoor lounge. Morphologically, the proposal was based in the use of white colors and exposed concrete, in a way that the space has a light and neutral feeling, so the users can focus on their activities, and not on the design. The adequate shading was achieved with the use of moving and stable louvers. The natural air ventilation was achieved with the use of perforated PVC panels, while the roof’s louvers of the covered space, can remain open during the summer, thus improving the users’ thermal comfort conditions.
